This summer I am taking an online digital media marketing class. This is by far one of the most relevant courses I have taken throughout my college career. Considering how much technology has taken over in the past couple of years, it is important to know how to use it appropriately when job seeking.
This course has taught me about online transparency, your professional image, making a digital resume, how to sell yourself through social media, and so much more. I believe the most important thing I have learned through this course is how to start and maintain your professional image online.
Many job seekers or even potential customers (when you are working for a company) use the internet looking for information. The information that you want your potential employers or customers to stumble upon on the internet is under your control. It is so important to know how transparent you should be online. Knowing your companies values and what they deem to be appropriate and inappropriate content is very important when releasing information about yourself online.
Using digital media can hurt you in numerous ways if you are not monitoring your content continuously throughout your posts. Digital media can also be a great tool to sell yourself as well. Being able to prove your credibility, expertise, and professionalism through websites without even having to have a conversation with you saves a lot of time and questioning for your social media viewers. First impressions go a long way, especially in the business world. Being able to give an awesome first impression by using digital media sources to your advantage will help you to maintain the professional image you desire.
It is very important to know how to post, what to post, and where to post it. Now that this technological age is taking over and becoming the future, employers and customers are going to be searching for you online. Make sure your posts help build your professionalism, not tear it down. Think before you post and your digital media will help you go a long way.

Thank you for reading and I hope the information that I shared with you encourages you to monitor your social media to maintain a professional image of yourself online. Feel free to comment and leave any feedback you feel necessary!
